Want to take your tractor test?
- Most young farmers want to crack on and be safe and legal to drive tractors on the road as soon as they can!
- You can do your Category F Tractor Test from age 16, or you can wait until you pass your car driving test at 17.
How to gain the F tractor driving licence:
We no longer have a tractor, so we can't offer the same service we used to. However, you can do it yourself with your own tractor.
Requirements:
- You must be aged 16 or over.
- Have a UK Provisional driving licence. There is no theory test for taking your tractor test.
- You need a tractor that is no wider than 2.45 metres
How to get started:
Step 1: You need a National Insurance number to apply for your provisional licence. If you haven't yet received your National Insurance card call them on 0300 200 3500.
Step 2: You need to apply for your provisional licence. You can do this from age 15 and 9 months. It costs £34 online. Apply Here!
Step 3: Once you receive your provisional licence you can then book your tractor test. The DVSA test fee is £62. You can book the test by clicking here.
Step 4: When you book your test it will be processed and your local test centre will contact you with a date. This could be up to 3 months time. Tractor test slots take up three car test slots, making it difficult to get last minute cancellations.
Step 5: Take your tractor driving test. Make sure you display L plates front and back. The tractor must be road worthy, with no cracked mirrors or light lenses. All lights and the horn must work.
